In collaboration with EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School and other local schools, this course enables students to reach out to primary pupils, from low socioeconomic status families in particular, through telling stories in English to cultivate in them a reading habit that can lead to literacy development. In the classroom sessions, students will gain an understanding of the features, content and layout of narrative texts and innovative storytelling strategies; they will also practise storytelling and activity planning techniques. In the service-based sessions, they will conduct storytelling activities with lower primary pupils in EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School and other local schools on a weekly basis. Students will share their weekly planning and reflection before and after the service learning sessions. The course will help students to enhance professional excellence and ethical responsibility through their weekly commitment to their service learning.
