This course aims to provide students with geographical knowledge of the principles, processes, functions and patterns of urban and transport systems. The course will cover essential geographical concepts, including urban growth and urbanization, city internal structure, sustainable cities, accessibility and mobility as well as transport system and infrastructure. Local and overseas case studies of policies addressing problems and conflicts such as urban expansion and encroachment, housing shortage, urban pollution, traffic congestion, automobile dependency and other travel-induced impacts are incorporated to illustrate real world practices. Students should be able to evaluate current practices independently and propose new ideas on improved planning.
